Supportive Counselling

Options Counselling

Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre is a pro-choice agency that offers unplanned pregnancy options counselling. Being a pro-choice agency means that we believe that women have the right and the ability to make choices about their sexual and reproductive health. Our staff and volunteers offer information, support and referrals around all three pregnancy options: parenting, adoption and abortion. Our goal is to provide clear and accurate information in a non-judgmental manner and to support you to make the best decision for yourself.

Pregnancy Test Supportive Counselling

Our pregnancy test services are $10 or donation and confidential. Women can walk in during our office hours. If you choose to do a test at our agency you will get your results back within about five minutes. Then we will provide you with the information, support and/or referrals you want depending on the results.

Birth Control Information

We provide information around the various birth control options. These sessions are very interactive and include topics such as birth control methods, advantages and disadvantages of each method, where to access birth control, how different methods work and what methods might work best for you.

Phone Supportive Counselling

We provide information, support and referrals to individuals who are unable to access our services in person. All phone enquiries can be made anonymously and will be kept confidential. We can answer questions on a variety of topics in the area of sexual and reproductive health. If we do not have the information you require, we will refer to an agency that can help. You may call 1-877 NO MYTHS (666 9847).

Emergency Contraception Pill (ECP)

The Emergency Contraception Pill (ECP) sometimes called the "morning after pill" is a large dose of the hormones in an ordinary birth control pill. ECP can prevent a pregnancy if it is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, if you have been forced to have sex, or if the birth control method you were using failed. If you would like ECP at our centre, you must see a doctor. However, The Morning After pill, or Plan B, is also available at Pharmacy's. Planned Parenthood would advise that you telephone ahead to determine if the Pharmacy has ECP. If they do not, or they choose not sell you ECP, they are required to direct you to someone who will.

Further information regarding ECP is available from Canadian Federation for Sexual Health (CFSH), formerly known as Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada. Click Here
