The staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers of Planned Parenthood – Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Health Centre would like to thank all of the participants of Our Pleasure’s 6th Annual Run for Respect. We would also like to thank the Fry Family Foundation, Our Pleasure, and the Running Room for their continued support.
With a donation of $20 from the Fry Family Foundation for every person that crossed the finish, over $5,500 was raised for our anti-violence education workshops. These important workshops are delivered in schools and to community groups across the province. They help build self esteem, self respect and confidence, which in the long run leads to a better sense of well being and healthier communities. They empower youth, especially young women, to take an active role in violence prevention and to make the choices that are right for themselves.
In 2009, over 5,200 youth from across the province took part in our workshops.
In 2009, we also:
- Provided sexual health medical clinics to over 2,000 patients
- Distributed over 700 packages of medical contraceptives
- Answered over 3,300 sexual health questions on our Facts of Life Line and through e-mails
- Distributed over 38,000 condoms and packets of lubricant
- Conducted over 400 pregnancy tests
- Provided reproductive health services training to nurses, medical students, teachers, and other professionals
- Provided sexual health training to youth living in all areas of the province
- Worked collaboratively with other community based and government organizations.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to promote positive sexual health through education, community partnerships, information and services within an environment that supports and respects individual choice.
